As partner and president of David Hall Rare Coins, he is held in highest regard by his clientele, many of whom have been with him for over 38 years. He is respected by his peers for both his knowledge and reputation for integrity.

Van has been a rare coin collector since age 12 and a rare coin dealer since 1979. As one of the founders of Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), the largest rare coin grading service in the world, he has helped revolutionize the rare coin market. PCGS has graded and certified over 35 million coins over the last 33 years. PCGS has over 1400 authorized dealers world wide who sell their product.

PCGS was under the umbrella of Collectors Universe CLCT which traded on the Nasdaq Exchange, CLCT was taken private in 2021. Van was on the board of directors for the company and holds a certification as an Advanced Professional Director with the Corporate Directors Group. He also sat on the Governance and Compensation Committee for the company. Collectors Universe has several different companies that it owns, along with PCGS they also own PSA , Professional Sports Authority. PSA grades and authenticates sports cards, PSA currently has over 1000 authorized dealers within it’s network.

He has also won acclaim as a collectibles dealer in sports cards and memorabilia, rare firearms, Western memorabilia and collectible knives. His personal collections run the gamut from antique golf clubs to firearms, from English pottery to Bowie knives, from American and French art glass to Western Americana.
